Hi Everyone😊!Welcome back to my blog. I know i was suppose to upload yesterday but i was too tired to type so i decided to upload first thing this morning.Apologies guys🙏. Have your actions ever been misunderstood or misperceived by your parents or older people? It is something we all find very annoying and confusing. This blog is centered on Nigerian parents because i'm a Nigerian🇳🇬. As a young person i've come to understand that everyone in my life is listening to me through a powerful filter[the filter of their own needs]which transmutes what they hear. There's a phrase by Abraham Lincoln that action speaks louder than words but not all action is interpreted in the correct meaning of words.
I know Nigerian parents have their own way of reasoning things.Let's take for example, you asking your parents for money ,the first reaction you get is why and what do you need money for? .Don't get me wrong it's very okay to ask, when you tell them you need it for your personal upkeep like buying airtime or deodorant they conclude that you are lieing to them because you need the money to buy unnecessary things probably if you are a guy you need the money to spend on a girl. This is what makes young people find it difficult to ask their parents for money thereby looking for different ways to get quick cash. They go into stealing and playing all manner of games to get money. You may want to take responsibility not only for how you communicate with your parents but also for how and what you say is perceived by your listener[parents].
I've also noticed that Nigerian parents find it wrong for their children to be on social media because they believe it corrupt their minds and attract them to evil people such as kidnappers .Here social media is being misunderstood by them.I understand that social media has disadvantages but it also has advantages. Nigerian parents need to be confident and have trust in their children if you believe you brought up your child totally well mannered and you have not failed as a parent.Allowing them express their selves by doing the advantageous things on social media is not a bad idea.Social media has created several opportunities to showcase our talent to the world which has uplifted many families and has brought so much blessings to the young people of this generation.
Nigerian parents should also understand that our habits when growing up is not expected to remain the same because we would get to a stage in our life where we start discovering ourselves and as that happens certain things will change. When i mean changes i mean slight and not bad changes. For example, when growing up as a child your parents discovered that you like pink as a girl but as you became older your color taste changed to purple, a typical Nigerian parent will pick offence and scold you that you have started copying bad friends that's why you changed your favorite color. This can be so annoying because it makes you try explaining yourself to them in the voice of a five year old which can make you feel weak and frustrated.
